Greyhound Jazz band at Kingsville festival

The San Benito High School Jazz Band recently participated at the 50th Annual Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) Jazz Festival in Kingsville, Texas. The TAMUK Jazz Festival is a two-day event that features high school and middle school jazz band competitions and clinics as well as evening concerts featuring TAMUK jazz bands.

Much like in University Interscholastic League (UIL) contests, participants at the TAMUK Jazz Festival competed for ratings. Competing at the festival for the very first time, the SBHS Jazz Band received a “Division 1” from each of three judges, earning the student musicians a coveted Superior rating. Of all the 6A bands that performed, the local Jazz Band finished in the top 8.

The award-winning Jazz Band is comprised of Saxophones: Zeth Lara, Ismael Hernandez, Robert Resendez, Mathew Reyna, Dominick Flores; Trombones: Luis Moreno, Angel Gonzalez, Michael Salas, Leon Ramos; Trumpets: Robert Garcia, Santiago Perez, David Delarosa, Edward Trejo; Rhythm: Roman Limas, Victor Moreno, Miah Cardoza, Rey Vasquez, and Jimmy Anciso.
