The highway project designed to have a constant stream of lights from San Benito to Brownsville is moving along.
The Texas Department of Transportation says Traf-Tex Inc, a TxDOT contractor, will be working on the installation of LED fixtures on Interstate 69E in the Brownsville/San Benito area between FM 509 and East University Boulevard from now until mid-May 20.
Once that section of the “Continuous Illumination Project” is completed, Traf-Tex Inc will work on another area of the interstate.
The $3-million dollar project began in February and is intended to upgrade all highway lights to LED lights on I-69C (U.S. 281) and on Interstate 2 (U.S. 83/U.S. 77).
The money comes from state funds set aside as part of Proposition 1.
