Island police arrest wanted Harlingen man

HARLINGEN — Harlingen police have arrested a man they say evaded arrest for several months.

Miqueas Rene Martinez Jr., 19, was wanted back in September after he fled from an officer who was attempting to arrest him.

Police say Martinez was wanted on outstanding municipal court warrants at the time he evaded arrest. He was also identified as a person of interest in several car burglaries that happened last month. Two others, a man and a woman were arrested for their part in those crimes.

Police said they recovered some stolen property and were able to link it to Martinez.

After a lengthy search, he was arrested Friday by the South Padre Island police department and then transferred to the Harlingen City Jail.

Martinez was arraigned on a class A misdemeanor for evading arrest and a class A misdemeanor for burglary of a motor vehicle, with bond set at $8,500.
