Texas First Lady to be keynote speaker at first-ever Cameron County Reception in Austin

AUSTIN — Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott will be the keynote speaker at the first-ever Cameron County Reception at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7.

The reception will be held at The Austin Club and the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the event with the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce.

Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott has devoted her life to serving others.

She is a former member of the State Board for Educator Certification, where she served from 2001 to 2008, and also served on advisory boards for the Alzheimer’s Association Capital of Texas Chapter, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Texas Regional Office, the Holy Trinity Seminary, the Catholic Diocese of Austin Schools, Ballet Austin, and the Principals’ Center at Harvard Graduate School of Education.

She believes strongly in giving back to our communities, and recently announced the launch of her Texanthropy Initiative, which she will use to promote volunteerism and service to others as her primary focus as First Lady of Texas.

The Cameron County Reception in Austin is the premier event during Harlingen-San Benito Day at the Capitol.

The Harlingen Chamber of Commerce held the first Harlingen-San Benito Day at the Capitol during the 84th Legislative Session in Feb. 2015.

City leaders from both communities were recognized on the House Floor by Representative Oscar Longoria and approximately 100 people representing 20 Legislative Offices were present during the Legislative Reception including TxDOT Executive Director, Joe Weber, Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., Representatives Rene Oliveira, Eddie Lucio III, and Oscar Longoria.
