Texas Independence Day celebration in San Benito

The annual Texas Independence Day Celebration is taking place in San Benito this Saturday.

The battle skirmishes will be re-enacted by locals and state historians. These groups of Texas history lovers will depict the Battle of the Alamo and several other famous Texas battles.

The actors will portray both sides, the Texans and Mexican soldiers, fully dressed in period attire. Some will ride on horseback, sling muskets on their backs and be charged with firing cannons.

Battle re-enactments

• First battle skirmish starts at noon

• Battle of the Alamo starts at 2 p.m.

• Battle of San Jacinto starts at 4 p.m.
