Police: Man threatens store clerk with knife

HARLINGEN — Police have arrested an Edinburg man they say attacked a clerk at a local convenience store.

At approximately 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the Quick Mart located on the 700 block of Rio Hondo Road in reference to an assault in progress.

When police arrived the store clerk told them a man, later identified as Rene Martinez Jr., 20, approached the counter and threatened her with a knife.

Martinez fled the area, but with the help of a concerned citizen he was arrested a short time later.

He was arraigned on a second degree felony for aggravated assault and a class a misdemeanor for evading arrest. His bond was set at $27,500.
