Firefighters battle blaze at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito

San Benito firefighters battled a blaze Monday night at the Thomae Garza Funeral Home in downtown San Benito.

The fire started before 10 p.m. and appears to be in the attic of the building.

The Brownsville Fire Department assistied in the fire and sent a fire rescue truck and two fire engines. AEP was also on the scene and cut off power to the building.

Sam Houston Boulevard was closed to traffic in front of the funeral home.

The funeral home released the following statement:

Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito suffered a fire incident yesterday evening. We are currently working in restorating the damages so we can continue to operate and serve our loving families during their time of need.
