TSTC Unites to Fight Heart Disease

Texas State Technical College celebrated American Heart Month by observing Wear Red Day and uniting in the fight against heart disease.

“This initiative is to bring awareness to women regarding heart disease; 1 in 3 are affected by this disease,” said Julie Gonzalez, TSTC human resources onboarding manager. “This is our way of showcasing a cause that is near and dear to many hearts, because heart disease isn’t biased.”

According the American Heart Association, heart disease kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds. Additionally, 1 in 3 men has some form of cardiovascular disease representing 50 percent of deaths caused by heart disease.

Furthermore, February is also Teen Dating Violence Awareness month, and the TSTC Human Resources department is taking action on this cause as well and spreading awareness among faculty and staff regarding issues that teens may face and how they can get help.
