Trial set for San Benito cop facing multiple charges

SAN BENITO — A San Benito police officer faces three charges stemming from registering his security firm.

Marco Antonio Samano, 34, is charged with three Class A misdemeanors as he awaits a jury trial set for Feb. 27 before Cameron County Court at Law Judge Arturo McDonald.

Samano, who turned himself in at McDonald’s court Jan. 25, was released on his own recognizance after posting $15,000 in personal recognizance bonds.

The Cameron County District Attorney’s Office continues to investigate Samano as part of a case opened Sept. 22, 2016, Yvette Vela, the agency’s spokeswoman, said.

Vela said she could not disclose further information about the case.

In San Benito, Police Chief Michael Galvan declined comment, calling it a “personnel matter.”

“This is a personnel matter that we are not at liberty to discuss at this time,” city spokeswoman Martha McClain said.
