DPS seizes 561 pounds of marijuana

The Texas Department of Public Safety seized more than 500 pounds of marijuana Wednesday after a state trooper pulled over a truck in Hidalgo County.

A DPS trooper stopped a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on I-2 in La Joya, for a traffic violation around 10 p.m. The female driver fled and was arrested on I-2 near Inspiration Road in Mission.

Troopers say they found 51 bundles of marijuana, totaling 561 pounds, worth over $3 million, inside the bed and cab of the truck.

Beatriz De La Garza, 24, of Rio Grande City, was arrested for possession of marijuana and evading arrest with a motor vehicle. She was transported to the Hidalgo County Jail.
