4 San Benito School Board seats are up

SAN BENITO — There are four spots up for grabs in this year’s election for San Benito School Board.

The first day to file for a place on the ballot is Jan. 18. The last day is Feb. 17 by 5 p.m.

The election will take place May 6.

The school district will partner with the Cameron County Elections Department.

During Tuesday night’s curriculum meeting, executive director of finance and operations Hilda Rendon said the school district would enter into a contract like it has done in previous years.

By entering into this contract, Cameron County will be in charge of conducting the election.

The contract spells out the terms and conditions.

The anticipated cost to the school district is $30,996.

“The terms of the contract stated we deposit 50 percent and deliver it to the county,” said Rendon.

At the end, the county calculates the actual cost and anything that is left over is sent back to the district.

This was done during the 2015 election and previous elections.
