Police: Hit-and-run vehicle torched; suspect sought

HARLINGEN — Police say the vehicle involved in an overnight hit-and-run accident that left two people seriously injured was torched.

Last night around 10:54 p.m. officers responded to an auto-pedestrian accident on the 1000 block of W. Tyler Ave. When officers arrived they found a man and woman lying in the street injured.

Witnesses told police a white Chrysler 300 sedan struck the couple and then continued traveling eastbound on Tyler Ave. failing to stop and render aid to the victims. Both victims were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Police located the vehicle and from a photo released by authorities the interior and back of the sedan appeared to have been burned. The hood is damaged and buckled.

The Harlingen Highway Enforcement Unit is still searching for the driver. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Harlingen Crime Stoppers at (956) 425-8477.

Earlier this week a Harlingen man was killed when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver just a block away.
