HCISD school board named H-E-B education finalist

The Harlingen school board has been named a finalist in the H-E-B 16th annual 2017 Excellence in Education Awards program.

The grocery store chain says the awards are a way to support public education in Texas. The finalist are nominated by H-E-B customers and employees statewide.

H-E-B announced today that eight school districts and five early childhood facilities have been selected as finalists.

The HCISD board is one of five boards in Texas to receive the nomination. The Brownsville school district is a finalist in the large school districts category.

As finalist each will receive $5,000 for the recognition. If they are named statewide winners Harlingen could collect up to $25,000 and BISD could be awarded $100,000.

H-E-B will also honor 40 teachers and principals as finalist in the coming months. The awards will be presented in Austin on May 7.
