Asst. city manager may be heading to Eagle Pass

SAN BENITO — After nearly six years as a city administrator, Assistant City Manager Art Rodriguez appears to be leaving the job.

Rodriguez has been offered the city manager’s job in Eagle Pass, Isabel Perez, the city’s human resources director, said.

Rodriguez, who makes a base salary of $72,462, did not respond to messages requesting comment on whether he will accept the job.

But San Benito City Manager Manuel De La Rosa said Rodriguez has told him about the job offer.

“He did approach me that he was offered a position,” De La Rosa said. “I wish him the best of luck in his professional development.”

Perez said the city is working with Rodriguez to set a salary.

“We’re in the middle of negotiations right now,” said Perez, who declined to disclose the previous city manager’s salary.

In 2015, Rodriguez applied for the city manager’s job while serving an interim city manager following the death of City Manager Manuel Lara, who died in July 2015.

Rodriguez was one of seven finalists for the job, but city commissioners appointed De La Rosa.
