City cuts deal for ‘world-class’ hotel on I-69

HARLINGEN — City officials last night voted to grant incentives to seal a deal on a new Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott hotel.

What the city is calling a planned multi-million-dollar “world-class hotel” will be located between Ed Carey Drive and New Hampshire Street on the westbound side of I-69.

“The Harlingen EDC and the City of Harlingen worked hand-in-hand with us to bring this project to the community,” said Hiren Govind, chief operating officer for Govind Development Co. and a partner with Qube Hotel Group which will develop the site and manage the hotel.

The city, in a late-night press release, said Qube Hotel Group will receive city-donated right-of-way property valued at $4,800 to pave the way for the 95-unit hotel. Harlingen officials say the hotel will employ 25 to 30 people.

Qube Hotel Group is a Dallas-based company that specializes in hotel construction and management.

“This hotel is just one of several under design and construction right now,” said Raudel Garza, chief executive officer of the Harlingen Economic Development Corp.
