San Benito CISD students enrolled in the district’s secondary campuses are taking advantage of Naviance, a program designed to help them plan their future.
Naviance, a college and career readiness software provider that partners with high schools and other K-12 institutions, provides students with college planning and career assessment tools.
Naviance is a comprehensive K-12 college and career readiness solution that helps districts and schools align student strengths and interests to postsecondary goals, improving student outcomes and connecting learning to life.
Theresa Servellon, the district’s Director of Secondary Education, explains, “Naviance is the college-preparation tool that middle school and high school students are using to keep track of their college plans, such as transcript, resumes, portfolios and applications.”
Servellon explains that the Naviance Program has assisted the district in creating college/career awareness.
“Our students are researching universities, looking at career options, exploring their academic strengths, learning about the application process, and are generating a portfolio that contains their resume, test scores, transcripts, college essays, and reference letters,” Servellon said. “The exposure and preparation that this program is providing our students is invaluable.”
Naviance’s web-based software offers students a variety of features that assists them with college research and matching tools, course planning, career assessment and personality tests, and surveys to help students connect what they are doing in school to what they would like to do once they complete their education.
Naviance helps school counselors in tracking the progress of individual students and allows those using the program to communicate and collaborate with students and families, or create reports on their entire student population.
Additionally, Naviance’s integration with “The Common Application” facilitates the submission of college applications as well as the online submission of transcripts, school forms and recommendations through Naviance eDocs.
The program helps students reach their unique goals by connecting their passion to their future and allows students to create a personalized plan that helps them make the right decisions throughout their academic journey.
