The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has been ranked eighth in the country as one of the Top Online Schools for Doctoral Programs in Education by GradSource.com.
The website’s goal is help prospective graduate students make informed decisions about the future by offering comprehensive information on career fields, including business, healthcare and education.
To be included on this list, a university must:
Offer a doctorate degree in education.
Offer academic and career counseling services.
Enroll both full-time and part-time graduate students
Have at least 1 percent of its graduate students enrolled only in online courses
And must have awarded at least one graduate degree in that subject between 2011 and 2014.
The ranking is based on five criteria: affordability, flexibility, program prominence, student success and related degrees.
UTRGV’s doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction ranked first in two of those categories: affordability, and program prominence.
As part of the ranking explanation, the website says: “The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley boasts a student-to-core faculty ratio of 2.5 and a 100 percent employment rate within one year of graduation. Additionally, the average time to gradation for their doctoral students is under five years.”
Havidán Rodríguez, UTRGV provost and executive vice president of Student Affairs, said it is an honor for the university’s doctoral education program to be ranked in the top 10 in the nation for affordability and prominence.
“We strive to provide the best educational access and opportunities for our students,” he said. “To be recognized for this program is a great achievement. The success of our students throughout their careers is an institutional core priority.”
