Welcoming new city leader

LA FERIA — Jaime Sandoval will be finishing his first week on the job with a bang.

The city will host a welcoming ceremony for Sandoval’s start of his tenure as city manager.

And residents will have an opportunity to meet their new city manager on Saturday.

The event is open to the public.

Sandoval’s welcoming ceremony will be held at the Chaparral building located at 108 Main Street.

The celebration will take place from noon to 2 p.m.

Refreshments will be served.

Sandoval, 55, began work as city manager on Monday, Oct. 10.

He was one of 26 applicants who applied for the city manager’s position.

“The city commission is extremely excited to have him (Sandoval) join the city, and move the city forward,” said Eric Hoff, La Feria commissioner.

Hoff said the hiring of Sandoval was a decision made by the commission together.

“We narrowed it down to several finalists and interviewed each finalist, and the commission voted,” Hoff said

Sandoval said in a recent interview he will work with the staff to move La Feria in a positive way.

Sandoval has signed on to work for the city as an at-will employee. He will be paid an annual salary of $90,000 for his services as city manager.

Sandoval’s appointment comes after the termination of long-time city manager Sunny K. Philip who held the position for 23 years.

“I’m going to hit the ground running,” Sandoval said. “The commission wants me to start doing some things there that are going to take La Feria in a different direction.”
