San Benito, Harlingen homecoming parades tonight

SAN BENITO — The San Benito High School Student Council will sponsor the annual Homecoming Parade, which will start on South Sam Houston Boulevard today at 5:30 p.m.

The homecoming parade has become a tradition among San Benito and its residents

“It is a special event that brings the entire community together,” said district spokeswoman Celia Longoria.

“It’s always a pleasure to see the students and campus staff proudly displaying their school spirit as they proudly walk, drive or march along the parade route.”

The “Lighting of the SB” pep rally will take place at Greyhound Stadium immediately following the parade.

HARLINGEN – Last week it was the Hawks, this week it’s the Cardinals.

The Harlingen High School Cardinals will hold their Homecoming parade tonight at 6:30, beginning on the northeast side of the school on 13th Street. Bands and colorful floats will move slowly down Marshall Street and circle around 7th Street.

Crowds will line both sides of the streets as the procession passes.

“Everyone will then make their way into the gym for the pep rally,” said Principal Imelda Munivez.

They will then head to an empty lot next to the Harlingen School of Health Professions at 2302 N. 21st St. That’s where the bonfire will take place, setting ablaze a large “H.”

Friday, the Cardinals will play Weslaco High School. The homecoming dance will be held after the game in the HHS cafeteria.

Munivez said there are some discussions to release yellow balloons tonight in honor of Nick Peters who died Monday from leukemia.
