Chief: Woman stabbed 17 times, suspect found covered in blood

SANTA ROSA — A Santa Rosa man is charged with the stabbing attack against his common-law wife that left her with 17 stab wounds.

Police Chief Ronnie Hernandez said Francisco Hinojosa Jr., 34, was arrested at an area apartment complex when officers received a disturbance call.

Hernandez said when he approached the apartment he heard footsteps and yelling and found Hinojosa covered in blood. He immediately arrested him.

Police made their way to the back bedroom where they found a woman with 17 stab wounds to her neck and arm.

She told police Hinojosa stabbed her after she told him she no longer wanted to be with him. Police said Hinojosa stabbed her with a kitchen knife. The chief says the couple had been together 17-years.

The woman was transported to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Hinojosa was charged with a second degree felony for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $500,000.

He is currently being held at the Cameron County Jail.
