New police chief takes over

SAN BENITO — The city has a new top lawman.

Interim Police Chief Michael Galvan has been promoted to the position of police chief.

He officially takes over the job today.

Galvan, 47, has filled the interim police chief’s position since Feb. 23, when then police chief Martin Morales stepped down.

“Mr. Galvan is a talented officer with many certifications to his credit,” City Manager Manuel De La Rosa said in statement.

Galvan is a 16-year veteran with the San Benito Police Department, working his way up through the ranks from a rookie officer to assistant and interim police chief positions.

“I am honored to serve as the chief of police of this great city. Our department is a full-service law enforcement agency, providing police service 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Galvan said.

“The San Benito Police Department is comprised of employees who are committed to the highest ethical and professional standards. Our employees embrace the concept of community policing because the police department and the community share in the same responsibility of crime suppression and public safety.”
