The Starr County judge’s son was charged with cattle theft after taking a deceased person’s cattle and asking for compensation for taking care of them, according to Special Ranger Joe Aguilar Jr. of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.

Eloy Vera Jr., born in 1980, was charged after taking a woman’s cattle, which was willed to her following the death of her father.

“… He removed the cattle from the property without letting anybody know and essentially having them for about a week until we were able to get him to bring the cattle in,” Aguilar said.

He then added that Vera was requesting compensation from the victim for taking the cattle and taking care of them.

A total of eight head of cattle were taken.

Aguilar confirmed that Vera is the son of Starr County Judge Eloy Vera.
