HARLINGEN — The Family Crisis Center hopes to raise $50,000 for those adults and children experiencing domestic violence.
Center officials hope to raise the funds through their 5th Annual Champagne Brunch on Saturday.
It all goes toward the housing and operations of the center.
The Family Crisis Center provides a number of services most people don’t know about.
They currently provide homes for women and men who have made the choice to leave their violent partners and life.
Once a person makes that decision to leave an abusive situation and they are committed by obtaining a job and ensuring the children are settled in school, the Family Crisis Center will look for an apartment, pay the deposit and the first six months of rent.
The center then will provide furnishings and any other items needed, said Community educator Yvette Reyes.
Proceeds from Saturday’s event will go toward these efforts of housing and helping these families.
Last year, the shelter raised $38,000.
The mission of the Family Crisis Center is to empower adults and children experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual assault, and increase community awareness and responsiveness through prevention, education, outreach and advocacy.
During this year’s event, guests will be able to participate in a silent auction.
Items from the auction have been donated by various organizations and board members.
