Officers seize $200,000 in meth

BROWNSVILLE — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville seized a load of cocaine valued at approximately $214,540, officials said.

The seizure took place Saturday and is the second major drug bust in August.

A 2005 black Jeep Cherokee was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.

Officers then discovered 12 packages hidden within the vehicle containing a total of 27.82 pounds of alleged cocaine.

According to CBP officers, the driver of the Jeep is a 22-year-old male U.S. citizen who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, who had applied for entry into the United States.

CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver, and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
