SAN BENITO — Do you need help obtaining your GED or just want to get ahead in several subjects.
Tutors are now available for those who want to get ahead.
Spurred on by Dr. Enriqueta Ramos, her husband and several other retired educators, prospective students will be able to obtain quality tutors the second and fourth Tuesdays and Wednesdays of the month from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The free program is geared towards teenagers and adults.
Classes being taught include math, reading, english, science, spanish and writing.
Ramos, a retired professor understood the need for education and that is why she and her husband started the classes.
“I taught teachers how to teach bilingually and biculturally,” Ramos said. “If you want to learn Spanish, I will teach you Spanish.”
Classes are taking place in the library, an area Ramos said is spacious enough to get the right amount of study time in.
“We have a very large room that can be divided in two,” she said. “The main thing is getting everybody what they need. I am just really glad we are helping these people.”
So far, the sessions have about eight students. Ramos said there are more plans to come.
“The majority are studying for the GED and are employees of the city,” Ramos said. “I am glad that these people have a goal. It would be great if we could get more people who are willing to do that.”
In addition to seeking more students, the session will require more teachers as classes grow.
Anyone with a high school diploma can become a tutor.
Ramos, said for some students, they need that one on one interaction.
