Body pulled from Mercedes canal

MERCEDES — Authorities have confirmed the body pulled out of a Mercedes canal this morning is Yvette Franco.

The body was found nearly one mile away from where authorities pulled Franco’s car out of the Mercedes canal off FM 491 late last night.

Franco, a 24-year-old Donna woman, had been missing since July 30.

Police scuba divers searched the waters at the original scene where Franco’s black 2016 Toyota Corolla was found until about 10:30 a.m. this morning.

Then, police investigators quickly moved the investigation a mile north near Mile 2 West where authorities found the body.

Mercedes and Weslaco police used a rescue boat to search the waters for the missing woman.

Franco was last seen in Mercedes leaving a friend’s home on the north side of the city late at night.
