4-car crash causes injuries

HARLINGEN — Four cars crashed at a busy intersection during rush hour traffic yesterday, causing some injuries.

One driver said a car crossed a lane on 77 Sunshine Strip and crashed into on-coming cars close to the Harrison Avenue intersection.

Earl Kroesen, 40, said he was driving north on 77 Sunshine Strip about 5:45 p.m. and had just crossed the intersection when he saw the car in the wrong lane.

“The car was facing on-coming traffic. I swerved out of the way to avoid getting hit,” said Kroesen, a Harlingen resident.

He said he didn’t know what caused the car to cross the center line.

“You never know the circumstances,” he said.

A police officer at the scene said four cars were involved in the crash and some occupants were taken to a hospital. No other information about the injured was immediately available.

The crash caused a 45-minute traffic jam at the intersection.
