Where’s Mario? Willacy seeks to remove missing constable

RAYMONDVILLE — Authorities are searching in Georgia for a Willacy County constable who abandoned his job about 10 months ago.

County officials have filed a petition in court to remove Precinct 5 Constable Mario Salazar from office, but they can’t find him, County Judge Aurelio Guerra said yesterday.

“He just abandoned his job,” Sheriff Larry Spence said. “He just took off — didn’t say anything, didn’t say if he was coming back, not coming back.”

Spence said Salazar, who left with his girlfriend, is believed to be in Georgia.

On April 29, county officials filed a petition in state district court seeking an order to remove Salazar from office after it appeared the Lasara constable wasn’t returning to his job, Guerra said.

“Our intent is never to put out an order to remove an elected official who was placed by the people,” Guerra said.

In October or November, Guerra said, he last spoke with Salazar, who he said was trying to make more money.
