Woman is critical after multiple stabbings

SEBASTIAN — A woman is in critical condition after she was found unconscious with multiple stab wounds on the side of a road.

A man driving to work about 7:30 a.m. yesterday found the partially clad woman on the side of FM 2629 about three miles east of U.S. 77/I-69 near Sebastian.

She had been stabbed more than a dozen times in the front and back, including her throat, Willacy County Sheriff Larry Spence said.

She was wearing a top but not a bottom, he said. Black jogging shorts were found nearby.

She was airlifted to a hospital and underwent three hours of emergency surgery, Spence said.

Investigators have a possible identification of the woman. But they were not releasing her name yesterday pending notification of her family.

As of last night, the woman was not able to speak to investigators.

She had no identification and investigators initially did not know her name.

She was described as 20 to 30 years old. She has a tattoo on her inside right ankle that appears to be the letters J and L.
