Rio Hondo hires students for summer jobs program

RIO HONDO — Nick Uresti and his friend Jose Garza have been waking up early every day this summer to paint and clean up the park recreation center as summer youth program city employees.

“It keeps me involved with my city and the hours are real good because I can do stuff in the afternoon after work,” said Uresti, 17, Rio Hondo high senior. “I still have my whole day to do whatever I want and I’m still getting money for it.”

For the last two weeks the two of them and six other high school students have been helping around the city hall, cleaning up the city and working on projects the city has needed done.
