LA FERIA — City commissioners voted unanimously to raise Interim City Manager Esmeralda Sanchez’s pay to $80,000 on Tuesday to compensate her for her added city duties.
Sanchez will also continue in her role as La Feria city secretary.
“I’m okay with it,” Sanchez said. “It’s fair.”
City Commissioner Victor Gonzalez made the motion to increase Sanchez pay by $23,000 from $57,000 to $80,000 effective immediately at Tuesday’s city meeting.
The motion carried by unanimous vote.
Sanchez is filling the position left vacant by the firing of longtime city manager Sunny Phillips earlier this month.
