Want to taste test 15 or more different types of the fruit?
Well, tomorrow is for you then.
River’s End Nursery & Farm will hold its eighth annual Mango Festival to celebrate all that is this sweet and juicy tropical fruit.
Yesterday, Kathy Pechacek, co-owner of the nursery with her husband Ed, was hard at work determining which mangoes were ready for the taste tests tomorrow.
She is anticipating having tastings on 15 or more different types of mangoes. July is peak mango season.
There will be plenty of mangoes to choose from.
Pechacek said different trees have ripe fruit during different times of the year.
In all, in their orchard, the Pechacek’s have more than 65 varieties of mango trees.
They have 30 different types of mango trees for mango lovers to purchase.
“When I first married my husband, I really didn’t know what the big deal was about mangoes,” she said. “But then I tasted the variety and I know why people love mangoes.”
She said flavors and aromas that are evident in the U.S. and home grown mangoes are not found in those at the grocery store.
The mangoes from Mexico are picked and brought here to the stores because they travel well and last longer.
