SAN BENITO — Police have arrested a man accused of pointing a gun at a federal agent.
The incident happened Monday at 3:30 p.m. when San Benito police were called to help federal agents at the intersection of the southbound Frontage Road and Oscar Williams Road.
When the officer arrived he met a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer who had a man and woman in custody.
He told the officer the driver, Travis Reese Lopez, 24, pointed a gun at him as he was traveling on the expressway. They say Lopez exited the highway at Williams Road and stopped at the red light.
The CBP officer got out of his unit and told police he tried to get Lopez and his passenger out of their vehicle at gunpoint.
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were in a separate car at the red light and helped the CBP officer with the arrest. Police say they found a gun in the woman’s purse.
The couple was taken to the police department for questioning. Police say the woman gave them a statement and was released.
Lopez was charged with a class A misdemeanor for deadly conduct, with bond set at $10,000.
