Fourth of July on SPI: Get there early to see spectacular fireworks

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Are you ready to celebrate the nation’s birthday with a bang on the Island.

“It’s going to be a really good weekend,” said Clayton Brashear, Clayton’s Bar owner. “If we have good weather the whole Island will be packed.”

This year, the city has organized a dazzling 20 minute bay side and beach side firework finale nobody will want to miss.

“It’s going to be an amazing night of fireworks with synchronized music and everything,” said Kevin Arnold, SPI director of the convention visitor’s bureau.

Arnold said the pyrotechnics have done work for the Super Bowl halftime show and NASCAR in the past.

But, the trick will be to either be here already or get here early to find a good spot on the beach, the bar or your favorite fishing spot.

The city is expecting a seven to eight percent increase of visitors on the Island from last year.

“You really should come down on Friday and go back Tuesday to experience everything,” Arnold said.
