The Cameron County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team was called out to a home south of San Benito late last night after neighbors reported gunshots and screams.
Sheriff Omar Lucio said a 28-year-old Marine veteran who lived alone was barricaded inside his home on the 34,000 block of Quail Drive and refused to leave.
Lucio said his officers and the man’s father negotiated with him for several hours. His father said his son suffers from medical issues.
Lucio said they found no evidence the man discharged a gun, although he said the man does have several semi-automatic weapons, so he was not arrested.
He said the man will undergo a mental evaluation.
