Changing lives: Parent volunteers her time to school district

SAN BENITO — Rosa Gomez’s children have already grown up and left the house.

But that hasn’t stopped her from continuing to volunteer within the San Benito school district.

As a parent volunteer she goes to different cam-puses and helps with office duties. She also has been president of the Parent Teacher Association and heavily involved with the band boosters.

Ever since her first son, who is now 52 years old, entered school, Gomez has been an active parent volunteer in the district.

“It’s been a long time,” she said.

She says her passion for volunteering comes from her need to be informed about what is going on in the district.

It’s also about setting a good example for her children.

“It’s good to know what’s going on,” she said. “I believe if you are there and your children know that you are there, then they know you are putting their best interest first.”
