SAN BENITO — Police have arrested a man they say was throwing rocks at a vehicle and pulled a knife on officers.
To deter the man from harming the officers, they shot him with rubber bullets.
Officers were called March 10 at 10:04 p.m. to the 1000 block of Wick Street where a man police later identified as Thomas Randolph Taylor, 48, was throwing rocks at a vehicle.
Officers located a vehicle with damage to the front windshield in front of a residence with the front door open.
Taylor was seen inside the residence with blood on his hands and he began to yell at officers, police said.
“He then got up in an aggressive manner and pulled a knife from the back of his shirt. He was given multiple commands to drop the weapon but refused,” police said.
A less-than-lethal impact round was fired at him, striking him in his left upper thigh. Police said he refused to drop the knife and a second impact round was fired, striking him in his abdominal area.
He threw the knife at the officers and was quickly apprehended, police said. A records check showed Taylor had a warrant out for his arrest in San Francisco for failure to appear.
He was arrested on four counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer, criminal mischief and an outstanding warrant from San Francisco.
His bond was set at $275,000.
Taylor was transported to the Cameron County jail.
