DA’s office seizes $500,000

SAN BENITO — Three men were detained by the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office after a search revealed nearly $500,000 in cash stowed beneath the floorboard of their vehicle, authorities said.

The money is believed to have been obtained from drug trafficking, officials said yesterday.

The vehicle, a white Mercury Villager, was pulled over Monday by officers from the DA’s office on southbound Expressway 77 near the Sam Houston exit in San Benito, officials said.

The officers asked to search the vehicle after noticing the men inside the vehicle told conflicting stories and were acting nervous.

During the search, officers found a bundle of dollars wrapped in tin foil.
