Hidalgo County officials compiled a year’s worth of COVID-19 data — tracking activity ranging from cases to deaths, to hospitalizations and testing efforts — into a graphic that charts the pandemic’s impact on the area since March 2020.
The graphic shows the cities of Mission, McAllen and Edinburg with the most deaths due to the coronavirus at 492, 472 and 409, respectively.
Other notable items from the data include figures indicating that more males have died from the virus than females, although more females have contracted it than males; and that the majority of the more than 78,000 cases in the county consists of people under the age of 40, and more specifically teenagers.
Also, private testing efforts dwarfed public testing, 409,391 to 4,238; and the cities of Edinburg and McAllen have had more cases than in any other city with 13,512 confirmed in the former and 11,892 in the latter.
