Hidalgo council seats on the line in upcoming election

HIDALGO — Three city council seats are up for grabs here.

Mayor Martin Cepeda is competing for his seat against one of the sitting council members, Sergio Coronado. Coronado, along with Javier Solis, are hoping to unseat Cepeda in the upcoming election.

Abram Ramirez, an IT manager, is vying for Place 2 against Manuel Gallegos Jr. The seat will be vacated by council member Noe Reyes, who is not running for re-election after serving one term.

The race for Place 4 pits Rachel Anderson, an educator, against Linda B. Ayala, wife of accordionist Ramon Ayala. Ayala, the vice president of Liram LLC, ran unsuccessfully for the city council in 2016.

Early voting begins Monday.
