STHS implements visitation limits at healthcare facilities

South Texas Health Systems began restricting visitation to its healthcare facilities Thursday in response to growing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. Marcy Martinez, system manager of strategic relationships and public relations, said in an email that the restrictions were expected to be posted on STHS websites by Thursday afternoon. Limited visitation, as a temporary policy, now allows visitors between noon and 6 p.m. daily, and only two adults per patient. Alfredo Gonzalez veterans home limiting visits as virus protection measure

The Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home is limiting visitation to only spouses and family members as a precautionary measure to protect from the potential spread of the coronavirus, which the World Health Organization on Wednesday officially declared a global pandemic. Communications Director Karina Erickson of the Texas General Land Office said the McAllen facility is one of nine state veterans homes limiting visitation in this manner. Locations are in McAllen, Amarillo, Big Spring, Bonham, El Paso, Floresville, Houston, Temple and Tyler. Each home was notified Wednesday morning of this new, temporary visitation policy. No plans to close Anzalduas, Hidalgo bridges

The Anzalduas Bridge and Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge will not be closing in response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a city of McAllen news release. Though in Mission, the Anzalduas Bridge is operated mostly by federal personnel and McAllen city staff. Starr officials say local coronavirus cases inevitable, but urge calm

Starr County officials view the arrival of local cases of the coronavirus as inevitable and hosted a preparedness summit Wednesday to urge the community to prepare for when that day comes. “It’s something that we do need to plan for,” said Starr County Judge Eloy Vera. “It’s a matter of when, it’s not a matter of if, so we just want to stay ahead of the game as to what are we going to do as a community.” Dr. Jose Vazquez, the Starr County local health authority, lead Wednesday’s summit and reiterated that the purpose of it was to urge preparedness.
