Hidalgo County Pct. 1 office relocated to Weslaco City Hall

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 continues to operate out of Weslaco City Hall and the Progreso Community Resource Center following severe weather which left the Precinct 1 office flooded with about a foot of water last month.

The Weslaco City Commission on Tuesday approved an Interlocal Agreement with Precinct 1, allowing the county to use city property until the end of this year. The Precinct 1 office located at 1902 Joe Stephens Ave. is under repair.

“We need to make sure all mold and bacteria is cleaned up and construction finished,” said Jose Cabeza De Vaca with Precinct 1 Commissioner David Fuentes office. “We estimate around six months.”

The agreement also allows Hidalgo County Precinct 1 justices of the peace to use the municipal courtroom for proceedings.

“The city and county have determine that it is in their mutual interest to use space available within the city of Weslaco,” the agreement states.

The administrative and constituent services departments are located at Weslaco City Hall, and the sanitation office operates out of the field operations facility on Mile 11 North, next to Sunset Park near Mercedes.
