KRGV-TV meteorologist Alan Shoemaker returned to work today after taking leave following his diagnosis with acute myeloid leukemia in February. The weatherman has undergone chemotherapy treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
The 43-year-old has been public about his diagnosis, posting updates to his professional Facebook page.
“I’d like to at least share my story and tell people that there’s a good chance you can beat this disease,” he told The Monitor in March. “It’s not like the end of the world when you get leukemia, now.”
The Baltimore native has been at the station for more than 12 years.
“I feel great right now,” he said in March. “I could probably walk into work the next day, except for the fact that I have no hair right now and I have more chemotherapy. I’d look a little different.”
