The city of La Villa will hold its annual golf tournament fundraiser next month at Monte Cristo Golf Course in Edinburg.
La Villa hosts the golf tournament to raise money for scholarships awarded to all high school seniors enrolled in post-secondary schools from college to trade school.
Sponsorship levels range from $1,500 to a donation.
Last year, the city awarded a $500 scholarship to each La Villa High School graduate meeting the requirements, but the amount is dependent on money raised through the golf tournament. The funds raised are distributed equally to each high school senior.
“It’s actually a pretty fun event even though it’s a lot of work, but it’s something we really want to do to give back to the kids there at the school district,” said City Administrator Arnie Amaro.
The shotgun start is slated for 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 19.
