McALLEN — The 21-year-old man who led police on a high-speed chase Monday afternoon was arraigned Tuesday at the municipal court here on attempted capital murder, burglary and evading arrest charges.
Alec Bryce Adame of Austin allegedly “ransacked” a McAllen home Monday and was caught leaving the scene by the homeowner, who pursued Adame to the 11000 block of North 29th Street.
As police attempted to approach Adame, he “took off at a high rate of speed, fishtailing and with movement towards the approaching officers,” according to a McAllen police news release. The release adds that, “Responding Officers report suspect charged at them with his vehicle and placed then in fear for their safety.”
Although Adame managed to escape the officers, he was ultimately apprehended in Edinburg after abandoning his car, which police believe may have been stolen in Austin.
A McAllen Municipal Court judge set Adame’s total bond at $250,000.
If convicted of the most serious charge, attempted capital murder, a first-degree felony offense, Adame could face up to life in prison.
