Strong, dry winds elevate fire danger in Hidalgo and Starr Counties

HARLINGEN — Forecasters today issued a fire danger statement due to strong southeast winds and bone-dry conditions.

Enhanced danger from wildfires is in effect this afternoon in Hidalgo, Brooks, Jim Hogg and Starr counties until 6 p.m.

Moderate to fresh southeast winds at 20 feet along with dry fuel and low relative humidity have increased the threat of fires developing and spreading rapidly in these areas.
