New freeze warning issued for Rio Grande Valley

Don’t put those blankets away just yet.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville reports freezing temperatures are expected again tonight and a freeze warning will be in effect from 11 p.m. tonight through 8 a.m. Thursday.

The NWS reports clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop below freezing overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning.

Although the coldest temperatures will be in the ranchlands, areas along the Rio Grande and the coast can expect temperatures to drop around freezing by tomorrow morning.

The overnight temperatures will range between 27 to 32 degrees.

The NWS reports subfreezing temperatures will threaten tender vegetation.

Pet owners are encouraged to provide adequate shelter for their outdoor pets and livestock plus a safe source of heat.
