TABC to carry out undercover operations around college campuses across the state

As college students head back to campus for the fall semester, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) is carrying out undercover investigations throughout August and September to identify retailers who sell alcohol to minors.

The operations will primarily be held in communities near major universities and colleges, and will target TABC-licensed retailers — which include bars, restaurants, convenience stores and liquor stores.

Retailers caught selling alcohol to patrons and customers under the age of 21 could face administrative and criminal charges, according to a TABC news release.

Last year, TABC agents went undercover at more than 1,300 retail locations and more than 90 percent were in compliance with federal law.

TABC will announce the results of this year’s operation in late September.
