BRIEFCASE: McAllen assistant city attorney honored by lawyer group

Victor A. Flores, an assistant city attorney with the McAllen City Attorney’s Office, will be awarded the Texas Young Lawyer’s Association President’s Award at the group’s upcoming annual meeting.

TYLA is a department of the State Bar of Texas and is commonly referred to as the “public service arm.” TYLA’s primary purpose is to facilitate the administration of justice, foster respect for the law, and advance the role of the legal profession in serving the public.

According to the organization, Flores made many significant contributions to the 2016-17 bar year. In particular, he led efforts to bring high quality, low-cost continuing legal education programming to traditionally underserved areas.

Additionally, Flores has also received an appointment to the Texas Bar Journal of Editors for a two-year term. In print since 1938, the Texas Bar Journal serves as the publication of record for the Supreme Court of Texas, a scholarly legal journal, and the association magazine for the State Bar of Texas.

“I am extremely proud that Victor was elected to this prestigious foundation of attorneys to help them with their mission to provide legal assistance to worthwhile causes throughout the state,” said Kevin Pagan, McAllen city attorney.
