EDINBURG — Police have initiated a homicide investigation after human remains were discovered Sunday night.
At about 8 p.m. Sunday in a field near Ivy and Wendy Lanes in Edinburg police say a juvenile came upon bones later determined to be that of a person, according to a news release.
Officers responded to the field where they confirmed the skeletal remains that were found were that of a human, the release states.
“A crime scene investigation is in progress and investigators are treating this case as a homicide investigation until determined otherwise,” the release states.
Police said the gender of the remains has yet to be determined but residents in the area were told that there was no cause for alarm.
An examination has been ordered for the bones.
